An Evening at the Beach

Evening on the Beach

The fourth annual “Evening on the Beach” presented by Audi

by Sophie Gayot   Despite Los Angeles’ proximity to the ocean, it’s practically impossible to dine at the beach, toes in the sand, with a meal prepared by an on-site chef. It may be even more difficult to enter the Jonathan Club, one of the city’s oldest social clubs, which operates a seaside bungalow just off the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica. For years, the exclusive space has allowed members to enjoy the surf, sand and on-site amenities, but for one night in August, the doors will be open to all.   Join the fifth annual “An Evening on the Beach” at the Jonathan Beach Club Santa Monica, presented by Audi. The yearly affair presents plenty of opportunities to dig into quality food from some of the city’s best chefs, done up as an informal beach barbecue, with the backdrop of the sun setting on the horizon. As food calls for wine, over fourteen different wineries will be present, helping to keep the shoes-optional party going well into the evening.     Each $160 ticket includes parking, and can be found at www.eveningonthebeach.com. Best of all, the casual beachside party helps to support Meals on Wheels Los Angeles, which provides over 4,000 meals daily. Below is an enticing look at last year’s event. I hope to see you there.     About St. Vincent Meals on Wheels: For over 37 years the mission of St. Vincent Meals on Wheels is to prepare and deliver two nutritious meals daily to homebound seniors and other vulnerable residents across Los Angeles, regardless of ethnicity, disability, religious preference, or ability to pay. In 2013, STVMOW helped clients stay safe and healthy through a variety of lifeline services, and served nearly 1.2 million meals. Proceeds from this evening will help to sustain the mission to serve those who are unable to care for themselves.   You can click on each photo to enlarge. Photos from the 2013 event.
