New for 2014, the Infiniti Q60 convertible is essentially a G37 convertible wearing new badges. That said, it's no surprise that the Q60 inherits just about all of the earlier model's qualities. In the case of the hard-top convertible we drove, that means the car is a solidly-built, dynamically competent drop-top with a willing chassis, strong, high-revving V6 engine and plenty of luxury and tech amenities, starting at a price of $47,900. The Q60's design is beginning to show its age, however. While competing models from the likes of BMW and Audi have introduced more efficient new engines and updated their interior and exterior styling, the G37- sorry, "Q60" cruises along wearing a design dating back to the 2007 model year.Powered by the Nissan Group's ubiquitous 3.7 liter VQ37VHR V6, the 325 horsepower Q60 is able to reach 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. The seven-speed automatic with "drive-sport" mode (a transmission the Q60 shares with the older G37, as well as the Nissan 370z) shifts smoothly but can feel slightly sluggish when trying to hustle down a winding road. The Q60 convertible's handling and braking performance is about mid-pack for a near-luxury convertible these days. Equipped with the performance wheel and tire package, it stops from 60 in about 113 feet, and can manage .86 G on the skidpad.

The Q60 convertible is rated at 20 mpg overall, with an estimated 18 mpg city and 26 highway. In our experience, you should see slightly better mileage during freeway drives and slightly worse when driving in traffic.Though its feature set isn't revolutionary, the Q60 comes pretty well-equipped. Our Venetian ruby test car, loaded with the premium, navigation and technology packages, matched our expectations for this price point, with "intelligent" cruise control, a BOSE Open Air sound system with front headrest speakers, the Infiniti hard drive navigation system and rear parking sensors.

As with many in-car infotainment screens, the Q60's navigation and back up camera display is hard to read in direct sunlight, which might prove irritating in a convertible.

Overall, the Q60, while a competent performer, is clearly based on an ageing design and feels somewhat behind the times in the highly competitive entry-level premium segment. Nonetheless, the Q60 convertible makes a pleasant weekend cruiser or luxurious daily driver for those who don't need lots of storage space and don't mind sacrificing a little economy for sprightly performance.
