Named in honor of 16th president Abraham Lincoln, the iconic American car brand was founded in 1917 by former Cadillac manager Henry Leland and son Wilfred. While Lincoln first earned revenue assembling Liberty aircraft engines during World War I, the company quickly switched gears to focus on its own line of luxury automobiles after the war. The company's sale to Leland's one-time nemesis Ford in 1922 marked the start of a long relationship with the auto giant that has persisted to the present day. Although classic models like the Continental and Town Car are now retired, Lincoln has freshened up its image in recent years with a stable of smart and stylish models like the MKC and Navigator.
