Originally released in 2010 as part of New Belgium Brewing's Lips of Faith series, this sour brown ale is only 7 percent ABV, but its intense tart and sour notes make it one to be sipped and savored.
Brewed once a year, the sour apple/cherry notes are a result of its fermentation process. Also prevalent are flavors of brown sugar and vinegar. The beer rests in French oak barrels from one to three years before being bottled. This ale emulates the spontaneous fermentation beers of Flanders with a dry effervescence and earthy undertones. An ideal pairing is matching the sour beer with a blend of goat and sheep milk cheeses aged with herbs. Although the ale is brown, it's also "green:" in 1999, New Belgium Brewing became the first brewery in the U.S. to purchase 100 percent of its electricity from wind-generated power.
