The Lost Abbey Deliverance Ale

The Lost Abbey Deliverance Ale has flavors of vanilla, raisin and roasted malt

The Belgian division of Port Brewing in San Marcos, California, and legendary brewer Tomme Arthur bring us this blend of two different beer styles: 40 percent bourbon barrel-aged Serpent's Stout, a rich imperial stout; and 60 percent Angels Share, a brandy barrel-aged English style barleywine.

Named for the epic battle being waged between heaven and hell, this blending is an experiment of evil verses good, with the dark stout devil's brew being tempered with the heavenly, malty, sweet strong ale. Its appearance is a deep, dark brown with a thin, tan head, and whiskey notes are quite evident in both the aroma and taste. Other complementing flavors are a sublime rich mix of vanilla, raisin, roasted malt, dark chocolate and plum. At 12.5 percent ABV, you'll feel the burn, and this bottle-conditioned wonder is best sipped and savored over several minutes. It will also age well, improving and smoothing out over time. Be sure to keep some on hand to deliver you from evil.
