Harlem Liqueur is an herb-based liqueur imported from Holland

When it comes to liqueurs, there hasn’t been much on the market that is comparable to Germany’s Jägermeister — and no, it's not from New York.

Their Dutch neighbors to the west have created a liqueur to rival the popular spirit, named after a town outside of Amsterdam — Harlem. The two are similar in taste, but Harlem’s more herbal flavor gives it a competitive edge over the syrupy-sweetness of Jäger. This flavor is due to a “secret mix” of herbs the Dutch call “kruiden.” Although intended for shots, Harlem can be mixed into a cocktail or even sipped, where one may discover a hint of mandarin amidst the bold taste of herbs and spices.

Tip: Be sure to chill the liqueur before serving, as it is best enjoyed ice-cold.
