As more and more consumers clamor for deals on everything from cars to hotel rooms, Diamond Beverages bucks the tide with its Diamond Standard Vodka that hovers around the $100 mark for a bottle.
The product’s packaging reflects the premium price, as each bottle contains a round-cut 25mm Swarovski crystal. As a holiday gift, it certainly makes for a noteworthy presentation. But what about the contents?
The pure-grain Polish export is made from rye, distilled four times and filtered four times. Part of the production utilized a diamond filtration process which involves the use of thousands of DeBeers diamonds. It may be a gimmick, but we found the vodka to be surprisingly good: clean-tasting, with a substantial mouthfeel and a pleasant after-taste.
We only tried this self-described “luxury vodka” neat, as we feel using Diamond Standard Vodka as a cocktail ingredient is like taking the Ferrari to the grocery store. But if you feel mixers are necessary, try the Diamond Mojito, a vodka twist on the classic rum cocktail.
