Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Japanese Culture in the Bay Area with music, food and a parade.
Celebrating more than just cherry blossoms, the festival honors Japanese culture in the United States with a weekend of taiko drumming, martial arts, Akita dog shows, live musical performances and food vendors. The grand parade closes the festivities with 100 individuals hoisting a large shrine ("taru mikoshi") from the Civic Center to Japantown along with classical and folk dancers.
The Cherry Blossom Film Fest schedule for April 15 will include My Neighbor Totoro, Like Father, Like Son and The Tale of Zatoichi, tickets sold separately. The festival will be held within the borders of Laguna and Fillmore Streets and Geary and Bush Streets and admission is free (food is not included).
