Guests can enjoy Alain Ducasse cuisine, then work it off at the secluded beaches, tennis courts, spa or fitness center at this pet-friendly island getaway.
Appropriately enough this W hotel dubs itself “retreat and spa.” Although Vieques, (the small island that has the vocation to become an upscale vacation spot) on which it is built along a secluded chain of beaches, is not lost in the Atlantic, but visible from the eastern tip of Puerto Rico and a few minutes away from the Vieques airport. There is a perfume of tranquility not to say serendipity floating in the air of this compound. Even the modernism of the usual W style is subject to this soothing influence, except maybe for the entrance to the outdoor plaza, paved with rough uneven lava pavement (mind your high heels). But they plan to smooth it soon. The lobby, widely open on the seaside and successfully decorated without excess, is an invitation to discover more of these premises. The moderately sized 157 rooms on two floors in each unit and sparse along the ocean, ensure enough space and privacy for guests who enjoy oceanscapes of the Caribbean and secluded beaches from their beds. These generously sized guest suites feature private balconies or patios. Bathrooms are wide, but could accept more brilliant lighting. Alain Ducasse has set up the food & beverage program at the resort, including the W Café, Living Room and WET poolside. Signature restaurant Sorcé serves traditional island cuisine with a twist. The property’s facilities include the SWEAT fitness center, Spa Chakra, and outdoor tennis courts, as well as a multitude of available activities including kayaking, horseback riding, beach volleyball, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, and bike rentals. The resort is also animal friendly, allowing guests to bring dogs and cats up to 40 pounds
