Witness to turn-of-the-century wealth and extravagance, the Negresco still oozes luxury and style. The fine old paintings and period furniture would fill an auction room several times over, and there's even a huge chandelier that is listed as a historic monument (its twin hangs in the Kremlin). The 6,000 square meters of rooms and suites require constant maintenance, and the owners spare no efforts to keep them freshly decorated. The riot of color in the guest rooms may not be to everyone's taste but these opulent lodgings provide a glimpse of a more leisured era (as does the much-photographed car attendant in his jaunty plumed hat).
