A historic bank transformed into a chic, modern hotel.
For luxury you can count on, the stately Banke Hotel is worth the investment. This early twentieth-century, former bank building in the Opéra District combines original details with sexy, contemporary style. The lobby boasts a crystal dome ceiling and central mosaic surrounded by bank counters, while the guest rooms feature plaited leather rugs, damask headboards and, in the bathrooms, silver-plated mosaics. In addition, a collection of artworks from ancient civilizations is displayed on each floor. Of name-dropping note are the transparent "ghost" stools designed by Philippe Starck. Unlike most upscale Parisian hotels, this one does not feature French cuisine in its house restaurant. Instead, the menu at Josefin travels to southern Europe for Spanish dishes highlighted by Catalan specialties. Cocktails and tapas are served in the comfy Lolabar.
