Covent Garden Hotel
Tim and Kit Kemp's Covent Garden boutique offering.
A pioneer in a neighborhood area not previously known for hotels, but where they now seem to spring up every day, the Covent Garden Hotel remains a veritable jewel. If you're feeling theatrical (or really are a thespian), it will fit you like a glove. This small hotel is one of several creations from Tim and Kit Kemp, who have cornered the market in boutique townhouse hotels. A spacious entrance hall with a brasserie and bar leading off it takes guests into the two-level reception area. The drawing room fitted with a fireplace and adjacent library is the sort of place one dreams of owning. Bedrooms bear all the hallmarks of designer Kit's individual style. Handmade embroidered fabrics from China and India combined with pretty pastels and florals fill the large rooms. Bathrooms feature granite, not the ubiquitous marble. The Loft Suite (Number 303) has entrances on both the third and fourth floors. With its loft-style bedroom overlooking the drawing room, complete with fireplace, two bathrooms, dressing room and separate book-lined study, it is suitably dramatic. All rooms have a CD player, Tivoli radio, flat screen TV and chargeable high-speed Internet. Brasserie Max provides lovely light lunches in a long room looking out onto the street. A 47-seat in-house cinema designed by Poltona Frau means that film reviewers and media lovelies are often flitting in and out during the week for previews; the space can also be hired out privately.
