The Park Lane Hotel, London

A historic hotel with classic amenities and notable original details.

Opened in 1927 and now part of the Sheraton group, this splendid Art Deco-influenced hotel has provided the location for such period pieces as "Jeeves and Wooster," "The House of Eliott" and "Brideshead Revisited." It has some delightful suites, such as the Lord Peter Whimsey Suite, with a large bedroom, a study that can be turned into a second bedroom and a limed-oak drawing room with fireplace and balcony overlooking Green Park. All the 303 bedrooms are individually decorated in striking colors, and many of the large marble-floored bathrooms have Jacuzzis. Some of the rooms still have their original marble bathrooms and fireplaces. Wi-Fi is chargeable. If you're traveling in a large group or with your family, you can request adjoining or connecting rooms. All six Park Suites look over Green Park. The eponymous bar is quite clubby, and the expansive, 1920s-style Palm Court Lounge makes a good meeting spot and is renowned for its afternoon teas. Citrus offers great Italian food in a relaxed atmosphere. For more formal dining, Palm Court and Bracewells restaurant offer everything from late afternoon tea to hearty dinner.
