Hôtel Le St-James
With its private club feel this historic hotel promises a singular stay in Old Montréal.
Brimming with antiques, objets d’art and French tapestries, Hôtel Le St-James is an exercise in opulence. The Second Empire building dates back to 1870 and was formerly a bank. The superb location in historic Old Montréal makes for easy walking to downtown and a number of excellent restaurants, shops, museums and nightclubs. Add the hotel's signature attentive service, and you have a world-class hotel whose plush elegance appeals to both dignitaries and rock legends like the Rolling Stones.
Such luxury comes at a price, but the hotel is unapologetic in its catering to the elite. After all, not everybody recognizes a Ming vase or an 18th-century Russian armoire as such. Here, the haute set can choose from Superior and Deluxe Rooms, Junior and Executive Suites and Specialty Suites. All are decorated with handsome baroque furnishings and enhanced with Frette linens, Molton Brown bath amenities, flat-screen TVs, Band & Olufsen sound systems and curated artwork. Heritage College Suites incorporate the building's original architecture, and the 2-bedroom Penthouse is reached via private elevator and features Italian parquet floors, a gourmet kitchen and a 10-seat dining room.
XO Le Restaurant offers fine dining that matches the splendor of its surroundings. It is located in what was formerly known as the Grand Salon and originally known as Bankers Hall, and presents a seasonal menu by executive chef Julien Robillard. Along with its dining room, the restaurant has two mezzanines and private alcoves for intimate dining. XO Le Lounge, a bar-lounge space, offers an à la carte menu that includes oysters and cocktails. For relaxation on-site, Le Spa is an atmospheric suite converted from a vintage bank vault into a room with an original brick ceiling, stone walls and a lighted onyx floor that’s also heated. The concierge is happy to arrange activities out and about, from horse-drawn carriage rides to shopping tours in the Underground City.
