Raising the luxury stakes at family-friendly Avila Beach.
This Cape Cod-styled resort was newly built in 2005. Already a favorite with families, all of the accommodations are actually suites that have private patios or balconies. The décor has a modern seaside appeal, but never calls attention to itself. All suites boast flat-screen TVs, microwaves, refrigerators, cable TV with pay-per-view movies, high-speed internet access, and complimentary Bath & Body Works toiletries. Beware that the ocean view and actual room size varies, and that sofabeds may not be as comfortable as desired. Outside plantation-style furniture sits besides walkways that wind through palm trees surrounding a heated, glass-barricaded swimming pool and whirlpool spa right by the ocean. There's a well-equipped fitness room, ping pong tables, a life-sized chess board and a putting green, too. Breakfast is generously sized, and there's covered parking for all guests. Although it might be too close to public spaces for some, it's by far the most comfortable place to stay at Avila Beach.
