A playfully stylish hotel that offers a hip take on Hollywood history.
Located directly below the legendary, white-lettered sign in the heart of Hollywood, just off the equally legendary 101 Freeway, this historic 86-room inn offers a hotel experience heightened by the originality (some would say peculiarities) of its guests --- groovy European tourists, freeway transients and mid-range rock-and-roll acts. Highlights: a small courtyard swimming pool and the greasy spoon 101 Coffee Shop, which draws hipsters on weekends and offers the last espresso before the 101. The renovated lobby sports a retro look that matches the atmosphere, and upgraded pet-friendly bedrooms with views of the city or Hollywood Hills are nice but still somewhat standard; that said, they come with Wi-Fi and other amenities including voice mail, DVD players, dataports, coffee makers, hair dryers, fridges and microwaves. The front desk is happy to help you find your way to the Getty Museum or a happening bar, and the property is walking distance on a heavily trafficked road to the lively Franklin Strip, a trendy area with coffee shops, magazine stands and outdoor bar terraces.
