Channel Road Inn

Serenity is one of the first words that comes to mind when we think of the Channel Road Inn, tucked into scenic Santa Monica Canyon. Built in 1910 as a private residence on Second Street in Santa Monica for Scottish immigrant Thomas McCall and his family, this rare example of shingle-clad Colonial Revival architecture (still listed in many architectural books) was moved to its present location just a block from the beach in 1962, and a third story was added onto the structure. Construction was not completed, and the McCall house stood abandoned and at the mercy of the elements and vagrants for a dozen years before being purchased and rescued by Susan Zolla and friends in 1988. All fifteen rooms are individually decorated and have private baths. Some have ocean views and fireplaces, some have decks, and all offer phones, cable TV and free Wi-Fi. Some of the city's well-known restaurants are within walking distance. Other attributes include outstanding morning fare in the sunny breakfast room or on the guest room patio, a hillside hot tub, bicycles for riding along the nearby oceanside bike path, wine, cheese, tea and chocolate chip cookies every afternoon, secretarial services and conference facilities for six to eight people.
