A classic wine country favorite in Rutherford.
This Napa Valley resort, whose French name translates to "Inn of the Sun," has a reputation as one of the world's finest hotels. The plaudit is deserved: it is, quite simply, the crème de la crème of wine country lodging. Adobe-style buildings nestled throughout the wooded property contain a total of 50 guest rooms, most of which offer breathtaking views of vineyards, olive trees and hills. Standard rooms measure over 530 square feet and boast handsome recycled Balinese hardwood floors and carpet, fireplaces and stocked wet bars. Suites are more than twice this size; private cottages are comparable to comfortable homes. All guests receive complimentary wine and other goodies upon arrival, and enjoy access to the inn's private tennis courts. Guests can soak up some sun at the recently redesigned outdoor living area called La Plage; its centerpiece, the pool, glows with a pebble-sheen floor inlaid with Italian mosaic tiles and mother-of-pearl. The 7,000-square-foot Auberge Spa is exclusively reserved for guest use. In addition, the on-site Auberge du Soleil restaurant is home to a lovely outdoor patio with the best view of any restaurant in Napa.
