Environmentally sustainable chain lodging in the Napa Valley.
San Francisco entrepreneur Wen-I Chang launched the first of a chain of green hotels in California with The Gaia Napa Valley Hotel & Spa in American Canyon. This entirely non-smoking and eco-friendly hotel features 133 bright, comfy and contemporary guest rooms, all of which come standard with complimentary high–speed wireless Internet access, environmentally sensitive toiletries and organic fair trade coffee and teas. Another green touch is a copy of the book version of "An Inconvenient Truth" placed in all nightstands. Outside, there's a heated outdoor saltwater pool and a hot tub; elsewhere on property, a full-service health spa and fitness facilities with top–of–the–line equipment. A house restaurant and business center round out the services here. Of note: the property was the first hotel in the world to achieve Gold LEED certification (one of the highest ratings as determined by the U.S. Green Building council).
