A Southern California original with gorgeous ocean views.
There are landmarks in Orange County, and then there is the Hotel Laguna. While the building that stands today was built in 1930, the hotel’s history as an oceanfront fixture dates back to 1888, a year before this posh county was even created. While this history is part of the hotel’s charm --- as are the stories of stars like Humphrey Bogart and Errol Flynn staying here back in the day --- the venue has enough of a modern ambience to keep things from growing stale. Old school guest rooms offer original character and rose garden or ocean views, but alas, none come with balconies. You can also gaze across the water at the lively OceanView Bar & Grill. And if it gets too chilly on the private beach (furnished with umbrellas, chaise lounges and cocktail service), guests can move inside to the original lounge, where live music is featured on weekends. The hotel has a flower-filled patio with a gazebo, making it a popular spot for weddings. Centrally located in downtown Laguna Beach, the property is just a short walk to the city’s famous galleries, cafés and boutiques.
