A cozy hillside hideaway that boasts historical appeal in a quiet setting.

Manzanita Cottages

Laguna Beach is a town of intimate charm, which is reflected in this historic property. Each of its four freestanding cottages were commissioned by legendary film producer Harry Greene, who, in 1927, created the Euro-inspired venue as a means of escape from studio life. The center courtyard was designed for socializing, and the cottages for privacy. While you won't find precise period restorations these days, you will find the quiet, casual appeal that drew so many to Laguna during this special era. Cottages measure in at approximately 500 square feet, and each has its own full kitchen with utensils, living room with cable TV and sleeper sofa, bedroom with king bed and private patio garden off the bedroom. Two also have open-beam ceilings. There is an additional, smaller studio apartment that is nice and cozy for couples. The cottages are located in an elevated residential district three blocks from the village and beach. Minimum stays range from two nights to a week depending on the season, and monthly stays can be arranged. The property is also a popular venue for families, who often rent the whole place. And while the owners are mum about who all stayed at this place back in the day, it is known that when Joan Crawford bunked here, she preferred the yellow cottage.
