Capitalizing on the cool factor, this vintage gem welcomes dogs and their human traveling companions.
The Portland-based Ace Hotel chain is certainly making its mark with young, hip travelers. Its Palm Springs outpost is vintage at is best. Comfort meets cool with eleven different types of tastefully appointed rooms (170 in all) complete with leather furnishings and tent-like drapes that heighten a safari-getaway ambience. While rooms have everything for a comfortable night in, including record players and 42-inch flat-screen TVs, guests here seem to prefer to head out --- to their enclosed patios with intimate fireplaces or the pool where DJs often spin music and visiting scenesters savor alcoholic snowcones while bartenders cruise around on skateboards. The pool, with stunning mountain views, is a great place to people watch, since celeb sightings are common. Spa treatments are excellent, although not always peaceful, taking in the noise from the pool area. The private 4,000-square-foot event facility known as “The Commune” accommodates wedding celebrations, receptions, conventions and private parties. Patio guest rooms are dog-friendly. A comfort food restaurant and 24-hour gym are also located on the property.
