Hipsters unite at this mid-century modern hotel celebrating the Fab ‘50s.
When an Oregon couple stumbled upon a “for sale” sign in front of this 1951 hotel, it had certainly seen better days. But that didn’t stop Larry and Patty Stearns from purchasing the property and hiring an army of craftsmen and contractors to transform the building into a stylish ‘50s Palm Springs sanctuary awash in a rainbow of citrus hues. There are just eleven stylish rooms (some with kitchens) concealed behind the entrance of this low-slung hideaway. Accommodations embrace a vintage charm with tiled floors, streamline furnishings and mod décor. Modern amenities include a DVD library, book exchange, Wi-Fi and a welcome basket of edibles. The real attraction at the Desert Riviera is the heated swimming pool where guests do early morning laps and return in the evening to enjoy its candlelit ambience. Guests also mingle with one another over poolside barbecues or while marveling at one of the desert’s million-dollar sunsets. The Desert Riviera keeps a stash of bikes on hand so guests can explore on two wheels.
