Stylistic embellishments only go so far at this otherwise ordinary small hotel.
Though it bills itself as an inn offering “enchantment by the sea,” this 42-room hotel is closer to the freeway than the waves of West Beach. Stylistically it conforms to the standards of Santa Barbara, from imagery of leaping dolphins to the obligatory red tile roof and wrought-iron accents. A two-story affair surrounding a small pool, the property has all the markings of the adjacent apartment buildings. Inside, you’ll find the rooms somewhat dated yet comfortable, with practical amenities such as air-conditioning, refrigerators and coffee makers. Afternoon wine and cheese, and milk and cookies in the evening are nice touches, but essentially this is an ordinary small hotel with some stylistic embellishments. Rooms on the second floor offer more privacy and quietude. While guests can walk to downtown and the beach, neither of these prime attractions is particularly close. Expect to walk about fifteen minutes.
