Unexpected European flair in downtown Ventura.
Returning guests continue to rave about this small Italianate hotel in downtown Ventura. A favorite with wedding parties, the atmosphere is romantic yet unpretentious, reminiscent of European-style hospitality. There are just over two dozen pastel-colored rooms, all of which have some antiques, shuttered windows, cane and pine furniture, ceiling fans, air-conditioning, cable TV, high-speed Internet access, microwaves, refrigerators, and fresh flowers placed on petite tables. A few rooms also have fireplaces, bay window seats, and balconies overlooking a fountain terrace. Note that street noise can be bothersome in some rooms. The reasonable rates include complimentary evening wine and appetizers, as well as a full breakfast in the sunny courtyard café. Incidentally, a ghost has allegedly haunted the premises ever since a tragedy took place here in the 1940s---ask the convivial innkeepers to tell you the chilling tale.
