This venerable 50-plus-year-old institution is still going strong.
A rich and storied past, particularly in the world of headlining entertainment, provides the foundation for this resort that is doing its best to keep up with the times. It underwent a $100-million face-lift in the late 1990s, brightening the casino and updating the entrance and other public areas. The 1,720 refurbished guestrooms and suites include a penthouse where the Beatles once stayed. The standard and deluxe rooms in the Tunis, Alexandria and Tangiers towers feature all the standard amenities. Suites are geared towards business travelers and/or luxurious tastes, with parlor areas ideal for small meetings and entertaining. These parlors are connected to the master bedrooms, and some suites have balcony access. Attractions at the resort, where the Rat Pack hung out to watch Don Rickles' late-night lounge shows in the 1960s and '70s, include a beautiful swimming pool with private cabanas, circular fountains and a gazebo-covered spa. You'll also find the Destination Salon and Spa and an area devoted to motor racing with motion-simulator rides and the NASCAR Café. The glamorous rooftop suite overlooking the Strip accommodates weddings, and a versatile array of events is hosted in the 27,000-square-foot convention space, executive boardroom-style private skybox with video wall, hospitality suites and numerous other venues.
