Tasteful lodgings with unspoiled water views.
This manor house sits in a beautiful location right on the Miles River, a tributary of Chesapeake Bay, in the Victorian resort town of St. Michael's. You can borrow one of the inn's complimentary bicycles to tour the town and surrounding countryside. It was built in the early 1800s, and its former parent company (Orient-Express) upgraded it to the tune of $20 million in 2003. Given the lush foliage that surrounds this hotel, it's no wonder that September through November is its busiest season. All of the bedrooms are extremely tasteful, and they become even more so the higher up in category you go, culminating with the Master Suites. Subtle ivory wallpapers, pretty, dark wood furnishings and nickel and limestone accents add a smooth, modern touch to traditional Colonial style. Many of the rooms have French doors leading out to decks, patios or verandahs. The hotel is home to Sherwood's Landing, whose menu emphasizes regional ingredients. A sleek, infinity swimming pool competes with the river for guests' attention. The concierge can arrange preferred tee times at area golf courses. There is no fee for using the property's docking facilities if you are staying at the inn.
