A nineteenth-century jail transformed into a luxe hotel with sixteen-floor tower.
On the Charles River, with gorgeous views from most rooms of the scenic waterway and Cambridge beyond, the Liberty Hotel incorporates the entire block, which features a granite exterior and even the jail cells of the historic former Charles Street Jail. Trust us, though, inmates never had it this good. The 280 rooms in the hotel's sixteen-floor tower are outfitted with HD-LCD TV, digital phones and luxurious bathrooms and bedding, as are the eighteen brick-walled guest rooms located in the historic main building. The on-site modern American restaurant (CLINK) and trendy bar (Alibi) both feature historic prison touches, and the hip Scampo eatery wows visiting celebs with gourmet Italian and seasonal fare. Impressive as the state-of-the-art fitness center is, many guests opt to take a jog along the nearby river instead. The Charles Street T station is conveniently located across the street; within walking distance are the numerous shops and restaurants of Beacon Hill, the Museum of Science and the Charles River Esplanade. Amenities include Wi-Fi in the public spaces, 24-hour concierge and room service and environmentally friendly bath products from Molton Brown. The large round lobby is a see-and-be-seen open space, with a champagne bar and lots of places to lounge.
