A stunning spa B&B in an historic Taos neighborhood.
With a name that translates literally as "house of chimneys," Casa de las Chimenas indeed warms the soul, from the genial hospitality of the innkeepers to the many kiva-style fireplaces that glow throughout the winter. This eight-room inn is in a quiet, historic residential area that's just a half-mile from the town's vibrant Plaza, which is lined with galleries, souvenir shops, and restaurants. There's plenty of good dining here at the inn, although rates include an expansive Continental breakfast, as well as an elaborate dinner buffet with such selections as pecan-crusted chicken or shrimp quesadillas. The in-house spa specializes in such regenerative treatments as reiki and cranial sacral work. And then there are the rooms—airy high-ceilinged haunts with viga-beam ceilings, 200-thread-count linens, hand-painted tile bathrooms, beautiful Southwestern fabrics, hand-carved pine furniture, and huge beds with carved headboards. All have fireplaces, private entrances, and refrigerators stocked with complimentary beverages. There's little left to be desired at this magnificent little hideaway in New Mexico's funkiest town.
