A stylish hotel in the midst of West Chelsea's thriving art scene.
At first glance, the brick façade and gleaming steel mesh overlay of this building is more in keeping with a modern art museum than a hotel. But this is apropos given the West Chelsea setting, home to scores of independent art galleries and a revolving roster of artists both up-and-coming and well-established. Created by Mexican architect Enrique Norten and interior designer MCH (Arnaud Montigny), Hotel Americano juxtaposes Latin, French and Japanese elements, resulting in a natural environment that balances the classic and the modern. Three types of rooms are available. In all, mattresses are set on raised wooden platforms in traditional Japanese ryokan style, and extras include bean bag chairs, iPad directories and flat-screen Samsung TVs. In keeping with the Japanese inspired décor, guests wishing to dine in the comfort of their rooms can access the Bento Box Room Service for daily bento box lunch and dinner sets. House restaurants include the Americano, serving creative French-Latin fare, and Bar Americano, showcasing an array of inventive cocktails. Those looking for more privacy can make reservations for El Privado, the aptly named lower level lounge.
