The Upper West Side’s best-kept relatively budget-friendly secret.
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a better deal on the Upper West Side than Hotel Belleclaire. Tucked away on West 77th Street, just off Broadway, this small hotel has 189 clean rooms with hardwood floors, Frette duvets and ample sunlight. Tiled bathrooms are small but chic. The rates are low (and even include wireless Internet), so go for the Superior King Room if it’s available. Or for the bargain hunter who doesn't require complete privacy, economy rooms with shared baths start at just $109. Business amenities range from fax and copy services to two-line phones with voicemail, and there is a fitness center on-site. The Belleclaire is in walking distance of Lincoln Center, the Museum of Natural History, Central Park and the oft-overlooked but enchanting Riverside Park. Be sure to stop by the seasonal 79th Street Boat Basin Café to dine while walking along the nearby Hudson River. Another must: Zabar's, just three blocks away. Founded in 1934, this market is famous for its inimitable bagels, olives, smoked fish, coffees and cheeses.
