Upscale whimsy on the far west side of Manhattan.
Kimpton Hotels' stylish ways are in overdrive at the David Rockwell-designed Ink48. Housed in a former printing house --- hence the name --- this hotel is not for the ink-stained wretch. Instead, dashing guests find modern décor that will put a smile on design fans' faces. The hotel is well-suited for travelers headed to conventions at nearby Jacob Javits, those looking for a place to hide out for a few days and, also, families. All will feel taken care of --- that is, as Kimpton devotees know, the boutique chain's biggest selling point. The 222 rooms and suites feature bold art and colors, and some stunning NYC and Hudson River views. Accommodations come with complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and iHome clock radios. All the Kimpton extras are also here: evening wine reception, morning coffee and tea service, super-cute robes (with kiddie sizes too), in-room yoga accessories and, since this is a pet-friendly hotel, plenty of goodies to keep Fido content. InkSpa's signature treatments will leave you floating back to your room. The spa has three treatment rooms, including a couples' room. There is also a small but well-stocked 24-hour fitness center. But really, with just one block separating the hotel and the running path along the river, it's worth taking to the streets to get your exercise. There are excellent restaurants in the overall area, but if you are looking to stay close to your home-away-from-home, you'll be happy with the aptly named Print, the farm-to-table restaurant next door. For drinks or an a-la-carte brunch, head to the rooftop lounge, Press; the views of Manhattan are worth writing home about.
