Edgy urban flair in the land of longhorns and good ol’ boys.
The premise of this place is that it's named after an aging British rock star. Yet it's hard to figure out why a hotel this hip and stylish needs a gimmick. It stands on its own and can compete with the best of the country's groovy Ws and Schrager-esque lodgings. If you're cool and young (or young at heart), this is the place for you. The colors here look as if they took their cue from a Pottery Barn catalog. Sleek, concave sofas in the public areas are done in caramel and coffee tones, while the urban, pied-à-terre guest rooms offer a range of earthy hues. Amenities include rain showers and business perks such as spacious glass desks, high-speed Internet access, cordless phones and even supplies for preparing Fed Ex packages. Accommodations also include studios with business alcoves and suites measuring up to 1,200 square feet. The on-site Valentino Vinbar serves small tasty Italian dishes, and Derek Bar is just the sort of place where you might meet the hotel's namesake, were he to exist. The outdoor swimming pool area is Riviera worthy. The stretch SUV Derek Mobile provides courtesy transport around town. Meeting space includes two executive boardrooms and the Bravo Ballroom.
