This hotel specializes in upscale amenities for discriminating business travelers.
Formerly the InterContinental Houston (although the hotel remains under the same ownership), this first Royal Sonesta hotel in Texas offers high-rise accommodations in the swanky Uptown Galleria district, with a ten-minute drive to downtown, traffic willing. The rebranding of the hotel as a regally upscale destination has included a multimillion-dollar renovation. With its eye-catching lobby adorned with elegant columns and beveled ceiling, this isn't your typical business hotel. Yet execs consider the 485-room, 23-story tower one of the best choices in town. Indeed, its 50,000 square feet of top-notch meeting and banquet facilities make it a popular venue for conferences and retreats, with a Legends Ballroom that seats 850. The hotel also offers standard guest rooms and suites, equipped with such office-savvy amenities as three dual-line telephones with data ports and high-speed Ethernet connectivity. As well, the hotel has special suites located on three private floors requiring elevator key access. These rooms feature their own dedicated concierge and upgraded amenities such as cordless telephones. Royal Sonesta is among the few Houston hotels offering a Les Clefs d’Or assigned concierge, and its international staff is diverse. After weekday business travelers depart, weekend guests check in for the nearby shopping and restaurants. The Bar is noted for its martinis and fine tequilas and whiskies, while Table One allows up to ten guests to reserve a private table for executive chef face-time as they dine. Past guests include Josh Groban, Mary J. Blige, former President George W. Bush and former Chinese President Hu Jintao.
