A deft combination of hip and trendy with eclectic and elegant style.
This block-long, four-story building was designed by the architects of the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol. It is made entirely of marble and dates back to the 19th century. A National Historic Landmark, it is still listed as a federal building. It opened as a hotel in 2002, and its lobby impresses with vaulted ceilings, alabaster and chrome details, spiral staircases and creative light fixtures. The inner courtyard offers a peaceful respite with attractive greenery. Rooms feature high, vaulted ceilings that provide a spacious, airy atmosphere. Décor is hip and trendy, with retro color schemes and furniture. A unique feature is the selection of tall rooms with oversize beds and higher showerheads. Views from all sides of this building are attractive --- they look onto either the courtyard, downtown Washington or the Smithsonian. Poste Moderne Brasserie serves contemporary brasserie fare. There is a fitness center within the building and full-service VIDA Fitness across the street (guest rates are available). Nice extras include complimentary morning coffee and evening wine. Kimpton Karma Rewards members enjoy free Wi-Fi and a Raid the Bar credit.
