Hotel San Carlos
A landmark hotel that showcases downtown history.
Set in the Copper Square district of downtown Phoenix, this hotel is a reminder of a past era. The Italian Renaissance-inspired building was constructed in 1928 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Hotels. Hollywood stars used to spend time here when Phoenix was a desert retreat for the rich and famous. The 212 accommodations feature 11 celebrity suites, including the Mae West (she stayed at the hotel while performing at the Orpheum). Their décor preserves the glamour of the 1920s and 1930s, while modern touches include in-room coffee makers and complimentary Wi-Fi. Perhaps the most notable feature is the rooftop pool, affording views of the downtown skyline and surrounding mountain ranges. For dining, the hotel offers the Copper Door Steakhouse and Saloon and Seamus McCaffrey's Irish Pub. The pub has a large selection of Irish and Scottish whiskies and an assortment of Irish coffees.
