One of Midtown's hippest hotels serves as a second home for the media elite.

This cutting-edge classic was conceived by Ian Schrager and the late Steve Rubell and updated in 2007. The lobby’s already stunning good looks were freshened up by NY design firm, Roman and Williams, and Philippe Starck's original designs for the guest rooms and suites were taken in hand by Charlotte Macaux. The result: accommodations that are bold, elegant and hard to leave. Many rooms include mahogany cabinets, plush furniture and built-in banquette seating. The bathrooms have either a custom round tub built into a concave slate wall or a slate-and-glass-walled shower complete with MALIN+GOETZ bath accessories. The amenities include working fireplaces, lacquered boxes filled with Dean & DeLuca treats, flat-screen televisions and complimentary continental breakfast buffet offered on select days of the week. A drawback? Zero views. But the public spaces make up for it, especially the fireside reading area, where you can relax and do some seriously high-end people watching. There is also the see-and-be-seen bar and restaurant, Forty Four, serving one of the most interesting cocktail menus in Midtown. The food is topnotch, and we suspect that, yes, even some of the models who hang out here with the city's media elite can't resist the culinary enticements. And for working off those meals: the 24-hour Fitness Center at Royalton.
