The Greenwich Hotel
Robert DeNiro sets the stage with this stylish one-of-a-kind retreat in chic Tribeca.
Few hotels have experienced so much buzz upon opening. The reason? The Greenwich Hotel is co-owned by Robert DeNiro (along with Ira Drukier). It also doesn’t hurt that this Tribeca property boasts a near-perfect balance of comfort and cool. Guests are greeted curbside by name, after which a Champagne flute is tucked into their hands and they are whisked up to their rooms without having to check in. The extra-spacious 88 accommodations (75 guest rooms and 13 suites) are all unique, each one furnished with armchairs, antiques and accents that DeNiro and Drukier collected in their travels around the world. The décor is a combination of chic minimalism (the walls are largely devoid of art) and rustic flourishes (including reclaimed wood beams stretching across the ceilings and Persian and Tibetan rugs partially covering the wood floors). Hand-sewn Dux beds, iPod docking stations and complimentary mini-bar and Wi-Fi round out the perks. Bathrooms are clad in Carrera marble or Moroccan tiles, and some include rain showers and soaking tubs. The 6,800-square-foot TriBeCa Penthouse is stunning, blending Japanese and industrial design. Chef Andrew Carmellini helms Locanda Verde, serving inventive Italian fare in an industrial-rustic setting. The subterranean spa, Shibui, is anchored by an indoor swimming pool in a low-lit room crafted with the wood beams from a 250-year-old Japanese farmhouse.
