Legacy Suite at the Plaza hotel in New York City

The conversion of some of its guest rooms into residences aside, The Plaza has been and continues to be quintessential New York City. The elevators' mosaics gleam, gold-trimmed ceilings glimmer and celebrities of the past still haunt the property; Truman Capote’s “Black and White Ball” took place here, and the Beatles famously checked in. Speaking of guests, the hotel's best-known resident, Eloise, has a new space of her own: fashion designer Betsey Johnson went all out on pink (and zebra print) for the kid- and parent-friendly Eloise Suite. The unveiling of a stained-glass ceiling, covered up in the 1940s, shed new light on the already beautiful Palm Court dining room famous for its afternoon tea, while the Champagne Bar features the finest vintage Champagnes in a visually intoxicating setting. The Plaza food hall serving fresh, gourmet foods and gives guests a more casual dining option without sacrificing quality. The guest rooms are a blend of new and old, with flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations and Wi-Fi paired with 24-karat gold Sherle Wagner sinks, mosaic bathroom floors and on-call white-gloved butlers on every floor. Guests lucky enough to nab one of the pricey rooms aren’t just paying for a spot in the lap of luxury or top-of-the-line service; they’re paying to take part in New York history
