The French House
Turning back time in charming Wilmington.
This pretty, two-story home was built in 1850 for local boot and shoe repair merchant George R. French. Its welcoming exterior boasts a beautiful porch, turned rails and shuttered windows. Adding to the ambiance are the ever-present sounds of steamboat whistles, church bells and horse-drawn carriages. In the three guest rooms you will find fireplaces, antique furnishings, romantic window treatments and a few nods to modern living---cable TV, VCRs, phones and fax service. Entrances are private, and all accommodations have individual baths with claw-foot soaking tubs. Complimentary breakfast is included in your stay. The house is near the Cape Fear River and numerous historical sights. Smoking and pets are not allowed.
