Hotel Valley Ho
Mid-century history enjoys hip new life near Old Town Scottsdale.
This model of classic mid-century design (accented in muted hipster tones of green, teal, yellow and orange) first opened its doors in the 1950s to guests who included Humphrey Bogart and Marilyn Monroe. Jimmy Durante once played piano in the lobby, and Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner held their wedding reception here. The location, within walking distance to downtown's galleries and shops, makes it a nice alternative to the area's many desert resorts. The original two-story tower has grown and now houses a lobby restaurant, spa, gym and upper-level condos. All accommodations, with bedrooms separated from the bath facilities by glass walls, open onto patios; they're well-equipped with flat-screen TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access, feather-top beds and in-room espresso. Cabana Guest Rooms come with curtained cabana patios overlooking the pool, while Terrace Suites have 800-square-foot patios or balconies. A 2,100-square-foot Presidential Loft includes spacious outdoor areas and a full kitchen, living room and mountain views. At ZuZu, diners will find an exhibition kitchen, soda fountain and plenty of comfort food.
