Singita Ebony Lodge

Safari chic design creates a stunning home base on the Sabi Sand game reserve.

Singita Ebony Lodge

Founder Luke Bailes changed the way travelers think about safaris when he opened his luxurious Singita Ebony Lodge in 1993. Over the years Bailes has taken the level of luxury even higher, with significant renovations to these intimate accommodations on the 45,000-acre Sabi Sand reserve. The 12 tent suites manage to blend the feel of a classic safari lodge with contemporary features and amenities for an updated, but still very authentic experience. Interiors are furnished in “New Nomad” style with an eclectic collection of artifacts and antiques, animal print textiles, sepia photos and polished ebony wood (an homage to the trees that inhabit the site). Each suite includes its own bathroom and private plunge pool. Suspended outdoor pavilion decks that appear to hang from the trees overlooking the Sand River offer prime game viewing vantage points. Guests can swap stories with fellow travelers over evening cocktails in the lodge’s central lounge. All meals and beverages, twice-daily safari excursions, laundry service and road transfers are included in the price of the stay; spa treatments and Champagne can be arranged for an extra charge.
