Relais San Maurizio
A former Italian monastery provides a stunning backdrop for this sophisticated hotel.
In 1619, Cistercian monks created a monastery in San Maurizio atop a hill surrounded by vineyards. The centuries that followed saw the property through several different lives, finally arriving at its current incarnation as a luxury spa hotel. An abiding sense of history permeates every aspect of the handsome hotel and grounds, from the original stone façade to the gorgeously tended vineyards and olive trees that populate the landscape. While the décor is modern, it has been meticulously chosen to integrate seamlessly into the heritage atmosphere.
The section that once accommodated the monks now holds 36 rooms and suites, all with their own distinctive styles and featuring classical details like hand-painted ceilings, vaulted stone ceilings and inlaid wood floors. In addition, luxury suites boasts private patios and original details such as 18th-century wooden beams. Produce from the hotel’s own organic gardens informs both the on-site restaurants and the spa, where it’s put to use in wholesome meals and skincare products, respectively. Among the selection of dining venues, signature restaurant Guido da Costigliole serves a slow food menu in the storied monastery cellars. Among the property's many unique facilities is the salt cave that has been incorporated into the spa.
