Seventeenth-century history is the highlight at this charming Amsterdam hotel.

Hotel Brouwer

Located on the Singel canal in the heart of old Amsterdam, Hotel Brouwer preserves history in a picturesque seventeenth-century building. Owned by the Brouwer family since 1917, the property was restored in the 1990s, transforming the once twenty-room hotel to a more spacious eight-room property with colonial details such as exposed beams, wood floors and antique furniture. Each room has a beautiful view of the canals and surrounding historic buildings. In addition, each is named after a Dutch painter from the seventeenth through twentieth centuries (Vermeer, Hals, Rembrandt, etc.), with a print from that artist displayed on the wall. While individual rooms are indeed unique, universal amenities are provided: private bathroom (some with deep-set tubs), TV, free Wi-Fi, work desk and telephone. Numerous restaurants, bars and coffee shops can be found nearby, and a house breakfast is served daily.
