A homey bed-and-breakfast townhouse in Kensington.
Sumner Place has a number of discreet bed-and-breakfast spots, and this one has been routinely endorsed by the British Tourist Authority as among the best. It is family run, though beware the occasionally off-hand service. Set in the smart residential area of South Kensington, it features pretty bedrooms, many with four-poster beds, and all with refrigerators, direct-dial telephones and cable TV. Buffet breakfasts are hearty and just right for a long day out around town. There is also a well-kept garden and a glassed-in conservatory to relax in after a hard day trawling the shops or museums. The owners are keen to promote an eco-friendly ethic and encourage recycling and keeping electricity and air-conditioning to a minimum. They will also only change linen every three days unless specific requests are made. Depending on their year-on-year savings on utilities, the owners donate the sum to charity as an incentive to guests.
