Corinthia Hotel London

Whitehall Place (Northumberland Ave.) London

A grand Victorian offering contemporary luxury for foodies and romantics.

Formerly the Métropole, this gorgeous golden-sandstone hotel once housed 600 rooms, which were knocked through to create 294 bedrooms and 45 suites --- some of the largest accommodations in the city. Rooms are built around a triangular courtyard filled with natural light and silence; lace curtains flutter in the breeze, and sunlight floods in. Décor includes raw silk textured walls, chaise longues and dark wooden floors lined with stripy chocolate rugs. All bathrooms have TV screens above the baths and separate walk-in showers with ESPA products. Drawers are filled with Harrod’s goodies, from Japanese crackers to Scottish shortbread. Nespresso machines are provided in executive rooms. The Corinthia has a 24-hour check-in/check-out policy and is one of the few five-star hotels in the city to provide free Wi-Fi. The on-site ESPA spa spreads across four floors, and The Northall restaurant offers excellent British fare. Of note: the smooth chicken parfait and fresh steak tartare with the farmer’s name listed alongside on the menu. The house sommelier, Fergus, is as knowledgeable and friendly as they come, so pick his brain to match each course to the best wine.
