Grange Fitzrovia Hotel
A great location for central London shopping and sightseeing.
Part of the Grange group of hotels, this is one of the more traditional older properties, ideally located for Regent’s Park, London Zoo and Madame Tussauds, and just a short trip from Oxford Street. Housed in a beautiful building, the four floors of 90 en-suite rooms are very small; this is not unusual for older central London hotels, but when compared with similarly priced accommodations in the area, it is a drawback. Rooms are rather old-fashioned, with quilted bedspreads and wooden headboards and paneling, and the dotted yellow carpets and patterned wallpaper could do with a revamp. Air-conditioning is exclusive to executive rooms only, so it can get incredibly hot in the summer. As well, ground floor rooms can get noisy at night due to the underground line running beneath the hotel; fortunately, it stops between midnight and 5 a.m. The concierge is particularly friendly and knowledgeable and will bend over backwards to attend to guests, so feel free to approach him for anything. On booking, make sure breakfast is included in the price, as £35 per head can come as a shock when there are plenty of excellent restaurants, coffee shops and breakfast bars around the area.
