Haymarket Hotel

A contemporary English retreat with a quirky Kit Kemp twist.

With the Haymarket Hotel, hoteliers Tim and Kit Kemp continue to corner the boutique hotel market in London. Owners of The Soho Hotel, Charlotte Street Hotel, Covent Garden Hotel, Knightsbridge Hotel and Number Sixteen, the husband and wife team have brought their brand to the heart of Haymarket's theater land. Kit Kemp’s signature love of English tradition twinned with outlandish modern twists greets guests at the entrance --- black-and-yellow couches on the left, florals on the right and a tree-like metal sculpture bang in the middle. A swimming pool area edged in stone and covered by a ceiling of fibre-optic lights feels more like a party setting, and the space can be hired out for private events. Kit designed each of the 50 rooms, handpicking armchairs, mannequins, drawers and fabrics or commissioning privately. Accommodations are bright and noiseless despite being above one of the busiest junctions in London. Bose stereo systems, DVD players and two landlines are standard fixtures, and guests can relax in the granite and oak bathrooms with a long soak in the tub while watching TV. Dining is offered downstairs at Brumus restaurant, hung with umbrellas instead of lampshades. Or guests can curl up in a sunken couch with a good book in the low-lit, cozy library.
