Eclectic modern elegance behind a period façade.
This privately-owned hotel lies behind an original period façade. It's an odd mix of modern and staid English décor, with the downstairs bar and reception area kitted out with sleek furnishings and funky modern lighting, while the bedrooms contain grandma armchairs and mid-eighties patterned wallpaper and carpets covered in twee florals. On the other hand, the king-size beds are very comfy and bathrooms well stocked with power showers. Rooms are also equipped with amenities such as satellite TV, trouser press, voicemail and wireless Internet access. Guests have access to a state-of-the-art fitness center and sauna, not to mention plenty of conference and banqueting facilities. For the area, the hotel provides excellent rates.
After eight years of hard work, with numerous setbacks, the makers of Oxley Dry Gin finally hit on a revolutionary method for preserving the flavors of the ingredients used in making it, while respecting the traditions and techniques of English gin-making. The result is the world's first cold-distilled gin.
