The Soho Hotel

This sexy hotel sets the standard for sophisticated urban escapes.

Like many of the Firmdale properties designed by Kit Kemp, The Soho Hotel defies stylistic definition. The lobby is eclectic, to say the least, with its funky fabrics and playful artwork. Featuring a log-burning fireplace and honesty bar, the drawing room pairs vibrant colors with manor house-style furnishings; of note here is the gin trolley for bespoke cocktails.

The 91 bedrooms include Terrace Suites with tree-lined terraces overlooking London. The creative use of gray pairings creates a soothing mood: ruby on gray, periwinkle on gray and dark gray on gray. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and DVD/CD players. As for the whimsical touches, keep an eye out for a dressmaker's dummy here, a wooden jaguar there.

On the ground floor, the quirky, clubby Refuel serves a menu of modern cuisine that changes to reflect its focus on market fresh ingredients, along with Afternoon Tea (including gin in the summer season), creative vegan dishes and a three-course Sunday lunch. The deep, leather armchairs in the two private screening rooms were designed by Poltrana Frau (many are also covered in cowhide); the hotel is often filled with film journalists attending screenings and conducting interviews, so keep your eyes peeled for a celebrity or two roaming around.
